The Rx Partnership Pharmacy Intern Program

Rx Partnership collaborates with all four pharmacy schools in Virginia, providing students the opportunity to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify career goals while gaining experience working with a nonprofit and free clinics.

The RxP Interns spend five weeks with us in their fourth year of study. The students usually incorporate a partner clinic visit and/or project to support that clinic. Click the flyer to the right to see what kinds of things a RxP pharmacy student intern could do for your clinic.

Izzy Sifa: Feb - March 2026

What led you to decide to attend pharmacy school?

I was drawn to pharmacy because of the wide variety of career paths and the opportunity to make both individual and population-level impacts in healthcare.
 

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to pursue opportunities that allow me to work at a systems level to improve medication access and population health, with a strong interest in managed care. I am interested in managed care.
 
What are your areas of interest in the field of pharmacy?
I’m particularly interested in managed care pharmacy, including formulary management, population health, and improving medication access at a systems level.

What led you to decide to attend pharmacy school?

Growing up, I saw how limited finances and health education can shape someone’s health choices; not because people don’t care, but because the system is hard to navigate. In my family, understanding medications, affording them, and knowing what questions to ask weren’t always straightforward. That’s what motivated me to pursue pharmacy: I want to translate medication information clearly, build trust, and help people truly access the care they need. 
 

What are your plans after graduation?

I’m planning to return to Thailand to teach. I want to use my pharmacy training to educate future learners and patients to help make medication use clearer and more accessible. Coming from a family with limited resources, scholarships made this path possible for me — and that experience is a big reason I’m committed to expanding healthcare access for others.

Why did you choose Rx Partnership for one of your rotations?

I’m excited to learn more about how nonprofits like Rx Partnership help expand access to care across Virginia! I've volunteered with organizations that focus on meeting people's basic needs like food and water, and it's shown me how much access impacts both physical and mental health.
 
Since I'm especially interested in behavioral health, I want to see how improving medication access can make a difference for people managing psychiatric conditions and support their overall well-being. 
 
What are your areas of interest in the field of pharmacy?

Psychiatry!

Why did you choose Rx Partnership for one of your rotations?

I’m excited to learn how nonprofits work behind the scenes—what makes them sustainable, impactful, and able to serve communities year after year.
 
For me, health isn’t just about treating illness—it’s also about preventing it. Rx Partnership’s mission reflects that by increasing access to medications for underserved Virginians, supporting free clinics, and helping patients manage their health before it becomes a crisis.
 
This experience will help me grow as a future pharmacist who not only dispenses medications, but also advocates for healthier lifestyles and stronger communities.
 
What are your areas of interest in the field of pharmacy?

Currently I am planning to go into emergency medicine pharmacy.

What led you to decide to attend pharmacy school?

During COVID-19, I saw how pharmacy worked from a different perspective. I saw more clinical aspects that a pharmacist plays a role in such as vaccination programs, counseling, and medication management.

Why did you choose Rx Partnership for one of your rotations?

I am eager to learn more about how non-profit organizations like Rx Partnership help with reducing healthcare gaps.

What are your areas of interest in the field of pharmacy?

Currently I am planning to go into residency with a interest in oncology.

What led you to decide to attend pharmacy school?

I started learning more about pharmacy through my pre-pharmacy club and biology honors society in college, and I discovered all these different roles pharmacists can have. The idea of becoming a clinical specialist, using both my science background and patient care skills - that really resonated with me. It combined everything I was looking for in a career.

Why did you choose Rx Partnership for one of your rotations?

Rx Partnership stands out to me because it allows students the opportunity to work for a nonprofit company that focuses on medication access in the Richmond community.

What are your areas of interest in the field of pharmacy?

Psychiatry/Behavioral health, ambulatory care/specialty pharmacy, emergency medicine

Why did you choose Rx Partnership for one of your rotations?

As a Richmond local, I was interested in connecting with and helping the people in our community, while gaining experience in pharmacy at the same time.

Why did you decide to become a pharmacist?

I decided to go to pharmacy school because I wanted to be someone that people can rely on, or go to with questions. Growing up, I knew I wanted a career relating to science and medicine.

What did you learn during your time with RxP that you could use in the future?

While at RxP, I learned about medication access, vaccine hesitancy, and issues related to the underinsured in Virginia. This gave me more comfort discussing these difficult subjects, and I will be able to use this information as I have conversations with my patients.

Why did you decide to become a pharmacist?

I chose pharmacy because I wanted to be at the forefront of patient care, directly impacting people's health and well-being. Pharmacy offers a unique opportunity to blend clinical expertise with compassion, improving lives through medication management and education.

What are your plans after graduation?

I hope to pursue a pgy1 acute care residency and then specialize in critical care for my second year.

What do you think people should know about Rx Partnership?

Rx Partnership does a lot of behind the scene work with helping patients get their medications and the care they need for some of the most popular chronic diseases. Many patients meds are through the RxP and clinics partnership and being on rotation here I got to see this!

How has this rotation prepared you for a career in industry?

This rotation has helped prepare me for networking and relationship building needed in most if not all aspects of pharmacy. It has also made me reconsider what type of pharmacy career I want to have. I enjoyed working with a non-profit as well as working in a clinic where they help people who usually would not receive care, if not for the clinic.

What experience has been most rewarding? (at RxP or in pharmacy in general)

Being able to work with one of the new AMP clinics was the most rewarding. I went to the clinic in Powhatan and helped them start transitioning patients to the AMP program. Usually the clinics are in charge of determining who is a good fit, which can be very time-consuming. This allowed me to not only indirectly help patients, but also directly help the clinic staff and develop relationships.

Why did you decide to become a pharmacist?

I decided to apply to pharmacy school because I was always interested in the medical field and enjoyed learning about medications. I started working in a retail pharmacy when I was in high school and really enjoyed the impact I was able to make on patients in the community. I worked in many inpatient settings prior to pharmacy school and I really liked the role that the pharmacist had in the hospital settings. I could easily see myself taking on those same roles. 

How has this rotation prepared you for residency?

This rotation helped me to build communication and time management skills which are vital for residency. In addition, I learned so much about free clinics and resources I can provide to my future patients. in need. This rotation can help you prepare for any career path you are interested in!
