Rx Partnership’s impact in the 20 years since we started providing free medication is significant. Thanks to the 30 partner clinics throughout Virginia and your support, we have been able to grow dramatically.
From a small group coordinating bulk donation of brand medication in 2004, RxP today is a well-respected nonprofit supplying both brand and generic medication to partners, offering mail delivery and providing partners with support, education, and resources.
Rx Partnership ensures patients not only receive the medication they need – but know how to take it, when to connect with their pharmacist with questions and how to properly dispose of medication that is no longer needed.
While access to care has improved since Rx Partnership's founding with less people uninsured in Virginia, the rising costs of medication means that our services are needed now more than ever!

The Impact of Medication Access
“Adella,” age 57, visited Sinclair Health Clinic in Winchester, Va., suffering from intermittent chest pain. She works full time but does not have insurance and makes too much to qualify for Medicaid. She’s the breadwinner of her family, as her husband has his own health conditions.
“I don’t really like to rely on people, but the clinic is something I do rely on. If I didn’t have Sinclair Health Clinic, I would likely be six feet under,” she said. After becoming a patient at Sinclair, Adella was referred to a cardiologist and got a heart catheterization that she desperately needed.
Now Sinclair helps her manage her high blood pressure and high cholesterol that contribute to her heart disease through medications secured by Rx Partnership (RxP).
“This collaboration is not just breaking down barriers to essential medications for low-income, uninsured people but also transforming lives - ensuring that quality care is within reach for everyone, regardless of socioeconomic circumstances,” said Mercedes Abbet, Executive Director of Sinclair Health Clinic.
“Together, we are not just providing healthcare; we are fostering a future where every person has access to the care they need and deserve and has the opportunity to thrive.”
Adella would not have the quality care that she needs without medication access provided by Rx Partnership. Because of RxP, she has been able to get her disease states under control and is able to continue to work and provide for her family.
The Impact on Chronic Disease Management
Access to prescriptions for chronic disease improves medication adherence, which means improved management of conditions like diabetes. Clinics consistently report in annual surveys that diabetes is one of the most prevalent health issues their patients face.
Fortunately, Rx Partnership provides a variety of medications to treat diabetes, including insulin for patients who would otherwise be unable to afford to pay for their prescriptions.
In just two years, clinics have seen a significant increase in patients, prescriptions, and the value of medication distributed for diabetes management. Rx Partnership is helping more people manage their diabetes effectively and live healthier lives.

This year has been celebratory for Rx Partnership, but also renewed commitment to our vision of medication access for ALL. Over the past 20 years, more than 84,000 patients have improved their health thanks to donated or purchased medications provided by RxP.
And there’s a ripple effect – entire families that benefit from a healthy parent able to control their hypertension; expectant mothers who receive insulin to ensure a healthier pregnancy; and patients with chronic conditions who don’t have to choose between food and medicine.
The “Heart-to-Heart” conversation with Dr. Sampson Davis in May commemorated RxP’s 20th Anniversary and the positive ripple effect of that signature event continues to be felt. The day included Dr. Davis speaking to students about careers in health professions and a reception featuring RxP’s Gallery Display on Chronic Disease. The display was recently translated into Spanish to help reach a wider audience and has been hosted by clinics and featured at a national conference.
The 20th Anniversary event culminated in the talk with Dr. Davis. There is an 18-minute version of that “Heart-to-Heart” conversation available for FREE to groups and individuals, available on our website. We hope it sparks ideas, conversation and opportunities for additional impact.
