Northern Neck Ramps Up Services as AMP Pharmacy

As Rx Partnership continues to redesign its Access to Medication Program (AMP), several clinic partners have stepped up to meet the needs of the AMP clinics that previously received pharmacy services through the Lloyd F. Moss Free Clinic Pharmacy. Prior to its abrupt closing in June, Moss Free Clinic dispensed 100% of the medication that Rx Partnership secured for 13 AMP clinics and also provided some specialty medication fills for two other AMP clinics.

One of the clinic partners helping to fill the gap in services is Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic in Kilmarnock, VA. Northern Neck has been working diligently to increase their capacity to fill prescriptions for not just their own patients, but to also help meet the medication access needs of the AMP Clinics impacted by the Moss Free Clinic closure.

When they began serving as an AMP Pharmacy in October 2024, Northern Neck served just one AMP Clinic, Ledwith-Lewis Free Clinic. They have since expanded to serve two additional AMP Partners – Chesapeake Care Clinic in February 2025 and Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center in July 2025 – with three more clinics onboarding this fall: Health Brigade (target date early September) Living Water Community Clinic (target date mid-September), and Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry College (target date early October).

One way Northern Neck was able to increase their capacity to serve these additional clinics was by increasing their hours from part-time to full-time for the pharmacy and some key staff members. By increasing their hours in the pharmacy, they’re now able to provide additional help to their own patients as well as the current and new AMP Clinic patients.

In addition to expanding their service hours, Northern Neck focused on staying organized and perfecting their workflow in order to accommodate an increased patient load. They organized their physical space by rearranging and relabeling their inventory, and they created a new data tracking system to differentiate patient records from each clinic. “And it’s also about the fact that we wanted to do this,” adds Brittany Lewis Harding, Pharmacist-in-Charge/Pharmacy Manager. “The mission is to help others, and we all felt the need to do that.”

“It truly is about patient adherence, patient compliance, and just helping the overall patient,” says Brittany. “These clinics are able to provide some of the medical, some of the dental, but that extra little puzzle piece was missing.” Rx Partnership developed the AMP Program in 2017 to fill that puzzle piece – providing the critical medication and working with Moss Pharmacy to create the systems for filling and shipping prescriptions to clinics that are now being used by Northern Neck to continue this critical service to promote patient health.

Northern Neck has a small but mighty pharmacy team that are rapidly increasing their capacity to support AMP clinics. Working alongside Brittany, Angie Rich is the full-time Pharmacy Coordinator and also a Pharmacy Tech. The clinic also has the help of Pharmacists Beverly Thomas (part-time) and Josh Miller (part-time, volunteer), and Pharmacy Technician Ginger Houck (part-time). Volunteers are critical to pharmacy and clinic success – special thanks to Gwendy Richmond and Harry Townes.

“We are just full of optimism,” says Brittany. “We are excited to have (the AMP clinics) join with us and us with them. And anything, anytime they want to reach out, they certainly can!”

In a very short amount of time, Northern Neck is more than doubling their capacity to fill prescriptions for AMP Clinics, which is over and above the pharmacy service they provide for their own patients.
