NOVA ScriptsCentral Uses Rx Partnership’s Inspirational Video to Engage Team

For those who attended Rx Partnership’s 20th Anniversary Event in May of 2024, they were treated to an inspiring and uplifting conversation with nationally recognized speaker, author and ER doctor Dr. Sampson Davis.

Dr. Davis had a wide-ranging “Heart-to-Heart Conversation” covering essential and current topics like disparities and fairness in healthcare, future workforce challenges, and for healthcare providers, how to provide patient-centered care.

In an effort to build engagement and include those unable to attend the May event, Rx Partnership sent a copy of Dr. Davis’ book “Living & Dying in Brick City – Stories from the Front Lines of an Inner-City E.R.” to each of the clinics that receive medication through our organization.

With 31 clinics throughout Virginia, we knew they couldn’t all attend the anniversary event, but this way they could connect with the message. The staff of NOVA ScriptsCentral (NSC), an Rx Partnership Affiliate Clinic and charitable pharmacy in Northern Virginia, connected with that message in a BIG way!

In November 2024, the staff of NOVA ScriptsCentral came together to view the “Heart-to-Heart Conversation” with Dr. Davis. It marked the culmination of their Book Club reading of Dr. Davis’ book and was a chance to enjoy a meal with colleagues along with a thought-provoking discussion about what they heard and read – and how it connects to them personally and professionally.

Dr. Shabnum Anwari, PharmD, RPh, a graduate of VCU School of Pharmacy took a lead role in coordinating the NSC viewing event. She was particularly enthusiastic because of Dr. Davis’ interviewer: RxP board member K.C. Ogbonna.

“I was delighted and pleasantly surprised to see Dr. K. C. Ogbonna—fondly known to me as Dean O! It was a joy to see my former dean playing such an integral role on the RxP Board of Directors. He facilitated a fantastic discussion with Dr. Sampson Davis, whose humor and relatability brought levity to an otherwise challenging and emotionally heavy conversation.”

“As someone who was raised by two refugees that escaped war, I know what it is like to grow up in a home filled with dreams. I always knew I wanted to pursue higher education, but often doubted my capabilities. Dr. Sampson Davis expresses the importance just one mentor can make in someone’s life.
