The clinic has accessed more than $32.6 million worth of free medication and assisted over 7,300 patients with approximately 127,000 prescriptions with the help of nonprofit Rx Partnership and the financial support of the Mary Washington Hospital and other funders
Fredericksburg, Va.—Rx Partnership, a public/private partnership established to increase access to medication for uninsured Virginians, was recently awarded a grant from the Mary Washington Hospital to support services to the Lloyd F. Moss Free Clinic. Since 2004, the ongoing relationship between Rx Partnership (RxP) and Moss Clinic has resulted in over 7,300 low-income uninsured patients at the clinic accessing more than $32.6 million worth of free medications to treat variety of chronic conditions. Lloyd Moss Free Clinic dispenses the most RxP medications of all partnering affiliate clinics throughout Virginia.
The financial grant support provided by the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation not only increases access to important and lifesaving brand medication for approximately 1,500 residents of the greater Fredericksburg area but also supports a new, innovative, medication access initiative, the Access to Medication Program or AMP. AMP provides critically-needed generic medications to low-income, uninsured patients at free clinics and community health centers without in-house pharmacies. The Lloyd Moss Free Clinic’s pharmacy supports this program by filling and shipping prescriptions to participating clinics across the Commonwealth.
By providing access to the most-needed generic drugs, Rx Partnership aims to reduce the facilities’ overall spend on medication, increase the fill rate for patients and, ultimately, improve health outcomes for people who cannot afford the rising costs of medications to manage chronic conditions. Since its launch in April 2017, AMP has been able to help an additional 700 patients with over 3,200 prescriptions in the Fredericksburg area.
“Rx Partnership created AMP to alleviate the financial burden that generic medications can create for both clinics and patients,” said Amy Yarcich, executive director of Rx Partnership. “With Lloyd Moss Free Clinic’s commitment and help from our financial supporters like Mary Washington Hospital, thousands of vulnerable patients who otherwise would be unable to afford their prescriptions have access to vital medications that manage their chronic conditions not only in Fredericksburg but across the Commonwealth.”
